Filmmaker Spotlight - Caroline Digan

Welcome to the Filmmaker Spotlight – this series shines a light on filmmakers, actors, editors, and more, as we ask them a few questions and uncover why they love what they do.

This time - Caroline Digan

Actor/Comedian

  • Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you get into the industry?

I have always wanted to be involved in film making and performance, but my schooling always came first. It was in college that I first began playing with comedy, writing my own comedy and working on film sets. At the time I was studying Theatre, but wanted to play with all avenues my university could offer. After graduation, I came home to Bergen County, NJ to dip my toes into NYC and its film/theatre industry. I’m not so sure how deep into the industry I’ve gone, but most of my work has been through classes, meeting other actors, and gaining mentors.

  • Who or what inspires you in your work?

I’ve gained such good friendships in the impressive and irrevocably talented artists I’ve met. Seeing their work is most inspiring to me. It both fills my cup, but gives me the encouraging shove to keep going. And when I’m really in need of a creative push, I rewatch the shows and listen to the songs that make me crave to be a part of this industry.

  • What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from another performer?

There is only one of you in the whole world. So, find your niche and sell the hell out of it.

  • What’s the biggest challenge you face as a performer today?

Being more comfortable in how I feel about myself, than how I want others to think about me.

  • What do you do to recharge creatively outside of performing?

Read! I was hardly a recreational reader when I was younger, but it’s become a hobby in my adulthood that allows me to check in with myself. I also can’t go wrong with a good ol’ fashion hot girl walk.

  • Is there a type of character you’d like to play but haven’t yet?

Lately, I’ve been itching to play the romantic female lead in really anything on film, but a current theatre dream role of mine would have to be Cherry Valance in the Outsiders.

  • What’s one project you’re especially proud of, and why?

My most recent film project was my first feature length film and it was an Indie! The cast and crew were absolutely amazing, and so I just feel proud to have been part of it.

  • Who would you cast to play you in a biopic?

Oh gosh, I don’t know if I’ve lived enough of an exciting life to cast someone just yet. Maybe ask again in about ten years :)

  • Favourite on-set snack?

Love a granola bar, or something salty!

  • Do you have any advice for people who want to do the job you do?

I’m still trying my best, but the most success I’ve had in these past couple of years are in the classes that I take and the spaces where I’ve pushed myself to grow and get better.

  • Are you currently working on a project, or would you like to plug something?
